We are officially in the last month of the school year! Hands down, this has been quite an interesting school year! As we are battling this worldwide pandemic, I hope that each and every one of your families are in good health and spirits! This is a time, we must embrace our families, friends and school community. Please be assured that P.S. 132 is always here as a support system for our school community. We thank you for trusting us with your children in this changing world of education. I will be hosting another Virtual Parent Town Hall Meeting via Zoom to provide updates on remote learning as well as the end of the school year on June 8 th at 5pm.
Thank you for your continued efforts in ensuring that your child is completing their Google Classroom, I-Ready Assignments and Assessments. Student data helps us to ensure we are making the right instructional decision in regard to your child’s education. Our final Grading Marking Period ends June 8, 2020. Assignments can be submitted up until this date. Starting June 8 th , we will move into Project Based Learning for our students. Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects. Our two PBL assignments will be given the week of June 8 th and June 15th . We want to ensure we are giving our students access and equity during this remote learning experience.
Teachers will be engaged in Professional Development on June 4th and June 9th due to Anniversary Day and Clerical Day. Students are expected are expected to complete work independently.
Ms. Belton will be collecting all devices borrowed from P.S. 132 on June 22 -24th from 9-12pm. These do not include I-Pads or devices mailed from the DOE. These devices are those given from Ms. Belton. Appointments will be made to return devices.

ASSESSMENTS / GRADING / PROMOTION POLICY: You should have received your child’s virtual progress report on Friday, May 29th. This progress report is reflective of our school wide evaluation scale. Any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. Assessment Week for Grades K-5 has concluded. If your child has any missing assessments, please ensure they complete these assessments before June 8th, the last day of the Marking Period. Teachers will also begin testing your child’s reading level via video platform. This reading assessment allows us to measure the progress and work needed in regards to reading before the end of the school year. As a school, we want to ensure that we have an almost accurate assessment of where students are academically in September.
Promotional Policy is still in effect. That means, if your child was listed Promotion in Doubt earlier in the school year, accurate assessment data showing growth and improvement must be collected to justify promotion. The Chancellor also announced that Summer School Grades 3-5, will be available remotely. Students in grades 3-5 who do not meet promotional criteria may be recommended for Summer School. Report Cards will be distributed on the last day of school June 26th electronically. Teachers will base students’ final grades on a holistic review of their progress before and after we started remote learning. Attendance will not be a factor in students’ grades. No student will receive a failing final grade. K - 5th Students receive final grades of either “Meets Standards” (MT) or “Needs Improvement” (N) on their final report cards. The DOE is continuing to develop plans for programming and supports over the summer months.
