Science

 S for Science

At P.S. 132, students are asked to inhabit the role of a scientist or engineer in order to investigate a real-world problem. These problems provide relevant, 21st-century contexts through which students investigate different scientific phenomena. Once the problem context is clear, students collect evidence from multiple sources and through a variety of modalities.

They move back and forth from first-hand investigation to second-hand analysis and synthesis, formulating an increasingly complex explanatory capacity for the problem at hand. Students engage in hands-on experiments and labs.

Technology

 T for Technology

P.S. 132 is a proud member of the CS4All Initiative. Computer Science for All (CS4All) will ensure all NYC public school students learn computer science, with an emphasis on female, black and Latino students.

Through our work, students will be better prepared to utilize computer science during their K-5 experience and after graduation. Students will leave P.S. 132 with the ability to code, work together to solve problems and participate in unplugged activities.

Engineering

 E for Engineering

P.S. 132 engages in purposeful innovation, creation and analysis using our Amplify Science Curriculum and Project Based Learning. Students take on the role of scientists or engineers—marine biologists, geologists, water resource engineers, and more—to solve a real-world problem.

These engaging roles and problems provide relevant contexts through which students investigate phenomena.

The Arts

 A for Arts

P.S 132 offers a rigorous curriculum in Dance and Music according to New York State Standards. Through dance and music, children are given an influencing, yet fun educational experience. Students engage in performance and presentation in both content Areas.

P.S. 132 also collaborates with Ballet Tech: The NYC Public School of Dance and The Center for Arts Education (CAE). We are proud recipients of the Future Arts Initiative (FAI) Grant. It is our passion and personal mission to educate, nurture, and develop joyful, confident, and empowered kids. Whether you are new to our school or returning for another year we hope to challenge and inspire your child.

Mathematics

 M for Mathematics

P.S. 132 offers a rigorous math curriculum and experience where students focus on procedural and conceptual understanding of mathematics using fluency and real world problem solving. We use Envisions 2.0, Eureka Math and Exemplars Math Performance Tasks.

Our engaging curriculum helps students become capable, confident problem solvers — with the critical thinking, reasoning, and communication skills they need to master 21st century challenges. We follow the K-8 Required Fluencies daily to ensure all students are fluent on or above their grade level.
